Many people could recognise hundreds of logos without even realising it. Surely this then means that the company and designer have done a successful job.

Everyone knows straight away a Coca-Cola logo or a Ford logo. What are the reasons for this and should the qualities always be followed to ensure a strong brand?

So why do they work and why have they lasted for so long?

Well there are many reason:

1) The design has the name of the company in the logo.

2) They are simple and bold.

3) The design can be read and recognised – from an absolutely tiny pin size right through to a billborad size, the design works.

4) Making sure the design is versatile – You want the design to be able to be used everywhere the bottom of a label right through to printed material.

5) You want the logo to mirror and represent what the company provides. You don’t have to take it too literately but consider things like… If it is a water company, the logo could be predominantly blue maybe to emulate the essence of the business.

In conclusion a logo should not be fussy, should not be complicated and should be able to provide a very strong brand identity for the company.
